27 km uphill climb out of the city on the pan American highway. Trucks belching black smoke, tired legs after no exercise for a year, added to a starting altitude of 1500m, al meant it was not the most relaxing of days.
12 km downhill clinging tightly to the brakes and arriving in the old colonial capital to every street of rickety cobbles didn't make it much better.
Antigua on a Friday evening was wall to wall tourists. Lovely architecture though and all surrounded by the towering peaks of 3 volcanoes.
