Arrived on time in Bangkok to be met by a lovely wall of warmth as we passed from the plane into the air-conditioned terminal building. The bikes and bags were waiting for us by the time we had endured massive passport control queues. Tadek set about reconstructing the handlebars and peddles as I re-packed our junk into our panniers. About 2 hours later we attempted to get the 15 minute (30km) train into the city centre - no go, the bikes would have to be re-packed into the boxes that we had just tipped. Ah well, 30kms in Bangkok traffic - lovely. We set off on the only sign-posted route to later be turfed off as it turned out to be the motorway. Directed onto marginally less busy route for the last 20kms. Hot, sticky stuff after spending the winter in arctic France. Arrived around 7pm and found an old, rustic, guest house who reluctantly agreed we could keep our bikes locked in her yard. Off to experience the Khao San Road - what a nightmare - much tackier and busier that when I last visited in 1991 - surprise that! My first Pad Thai of many, washed down with a Singha beer.
