Up early (body clock not happy with late start), week old newspaper on the veranda and a bird watch at the same time. Met some Americans from Washington DC - they were on two months Panama to Nicaragua backpacking tour. Breakfast in the hotel, bucket of coffee and walk around the town. Visited the Castillo itself on the hill including a museum related to local history. Lunch in an out of beaten track restaurant with great views was a good choice. Ice cream and a tourist office seeking a trip to the nearby national park. Booked and half an hour later we were enjoying a private ride with a guide to the Indio Maiz park. Heavy rain started. Three hours later with no great deal of animals seen and totally drenched we returned to the boat and 3 mins later…. hit something hard which broke the propeller! The river was pretty fast flowing and we had to be rescued by another tiny boat to get us to safety. After 10 mins we had changed boats and been driven back to Castillo and dropped outside our hotel front door. Shower and dry clothes followed by magnificent huge fresh water prawns for dinner on our hotel restaurant deck. Truly wonderful!
