A lazy start to a day with no cycling as requested….mmmm. Cycled around finding our feet, we ended up on a breath taking beach scattered with shacks full of food and drinks, with large verandas bamboo chairs, and umbrellas. The town is the second most desired place to live in the country after the capital (akin to Brighton in the UK). Settled down in one spot, we just lazed around most of the day inhaling the sun and swimming in the warm sea. Freshly grilled squid with chilli sauce followed with marinated cockles, topped up with banana shakes, fresh mangos and cold beer. Could do this more often J. A retired German gentleman spotted us lounging with the bikes and sparked up a conversation. He had brought here his racing bike with him, but had left it with his Thai girlfriend in Bangkok (I wonder how old she was?).
Eventually, we dragged ourselves from our comfy seats to cycle another beach for a sunset just to be served overpriced warm beer. Veggie rice and a fruit salad at a local roadside café were great though.
Burned like beetroots, we returned to the hotel and changed for St. Patrick’s Day. Found a non-Irish bar and landed up a table with two Brits. One was the owner of the place and the other one was Richie (Merganser 2 Barge), a man who I didn’t recognize, but who recognized us! He is long term bargie from the Champagne to Paris route and was frequently moored behind the Adrienne in Chateau Thierry! Ever so friendly – such a small world!
Cycled not much (22km)
