Woken up by the sound of birds and river . By 8.30 we had done tour around the town and sat down for another “galo pinto”(rice and beans) in the busy “soda”. Lovely and relaxed, breakfast in very non-touristy place turned into a great experience of local kindness! Fully loaded (could not eat any more), got packed, and took some pics of iguanas in the trees from the hotel patio. Left for La Fortuna. Most of the route was very easy: no climbing just a nice, gentle stroll through the countryside. Few breaks for coffee and sweets and we arrived at our destination at 3.30 pm. Volcano Arenal was only half visible, but the bottom half was a perfect shape – almost conical………..
Checked in to average hostel and went for a dip in the spotlessly clean river recommended by the owner. In the evening we made some plans for cycling half way around Lake Arenal and heading for the Nicaraguan border via another national park. First couple of beers since about a week ago, a sign of being clean of infection! Quick bite on the square and several coffees and teas put us to bed early for tomorrow’s grand slam uphill.
